The test of the Baldur 70 monophonic blocks done almost one year ago has pleased us, their price not being over 4000 € the pair, putting them in the leading group of best deals in amplifiers with tubes linking generous available power (80 W RMS) and musical qualities due to the optimal use of the double triodes 6AS7G. On this limited series, the beauty, the sounds refinement, as well as the natural of the stereophonic scene reaches even higher while referring to the same sonorous politic. The few 240 W RMS available bring on the voices, the piano as well as on the most various sounds a sonorous field, an even more valuable support, such as the Baldur 70 but better everywhere. The spectral balance appears very slightly decreasing towards the shrill is not a default. We get used to it so well that going back to common electrical seem to go towards an excessive luminosity. At first look these mono blocks impress quite by their sizes, their weight, the calories that they release. But the divine surprise is revealed in the sonorous performance which top the work! It is – on my opinion – the best hearing of the year. I know that there is still the December edition but I am ready to put my hand in the fire of their tubes: these power units will not soon be dethroned. Which surprised me the most, was to find under the same cover the fruity of the tubes and the unlimited energy feeling usually provided by more powerful transistorized amplifiers. It is extremely rare to combine both! But it is not all: The AudioValve know how to restore the pianissimis with grace, fluidity, lightness that the stronger one of 1000 W do not have! Audio Valve Baldur 300 plus Valve Power Amplifier Equipment Review /Ming Cheng, Liu Spotlight 2009
The most fascinating resolution power and amazing layer undulation effect of its triode, coupled with its multi-pipe parallel push-pull functionality and its huge power that enables loud sound without distortion, make it a nearly perfect power amplifier with pristine sound quality and suitable for both dynamic and serene scenarios. The Use of Indirectly Heated Triodes for Amplification Baldur comes from the name of a Germanic God who is specifically in charge of light. Baldur 100 first appeared in 1985, and later evolved into Baldur 200. Until 2004 CES, it did not evolve into the latest Baldur 300 or the Baldur 70 that has the same design but a smaller power. The power amplifier of each Audio Valve series has its own special features in design and uses different amplification approaches to accomplish breakthrough in sound. Baldur 300 can be regarded as their flagship, which adopts a parallel push-pull design concept. Parallel push-pull is not quite unusual, but Baldur 300 uses triodes at its power level, which makes it very exceptional! Its power tube is the indirectly heated single-ended triode 6AS7G. For each audio channel ten triodes are used, meaning a total of twenty 6AS7G triodes are equipped.
Auto Bias Regulator In addition, Baldur 300 employs the proprietary R&D work of Audio Valve – Auto Bias Regulator (ABR) circuit. Through careful observation you can find the power tubes of Baldur 300 are always surrounded by many small components, including ICs and a variety of active and passive component circuits, which are separate regulator and bias circuits responsible for each power tube. Don’t ordinary valve equipments have such circuits? The answer is maybe no. But, do they have a set of fully identical circuit for each power tube? If then, there is only one manufacturer doing so (All power amplifiers of Audio Valve are equipped with ABR circuits in their power tubes). The designer of Audio Valve must be a perfectionist to the extreme, therefore he/she considered to employ a set of ABR circuit nearby each power tube and uses a total of 20 sets for a pair of power amplifiers.
What’s the benefit of an ABR circuit? It enforces extremely strict controls over the power tube output, so it can ensure the tube to work normally even if the tube is aging. Audio Valve claims that you can wait to replace it until the end of its life, without affecting the sound of Baldur 300 at all. It’s safe to say ABR exercises a kind of strict and indiscriminative equality. Even when using an inferior valve, you also do not have to worry about any trouble of the equipment or the speakers – isn’t this very fascinating? The designer Hulmet Becker even believes that it is really incredible that none of the typical valve equipments on the market has ABR circuits.
So how do you know when to replace the valves? Next to each power tube there are several pieces of LEDs, which will light in the bypass mode and be turned off when the equipment is playing at startup. With large power output, the ABR circuits will be active too (so that the power tube can work more stably), and the LEDs will start flashing. If the LEDs light even at boot-up or when there is nothing to play, it is time to replace the valve.
As for the inputs and driver stages, Baldur 300 uses in its circuits four valves, three of which are dual triodes and conduct multi-stage amplification, and finally it uses 6N6P to drive the power tubes. Audio Valve added that the input drive level is actually the integrated amplifier circuits of the Assistent 20s (25W per channel) recommended by our chief editor.
Pursuit of Excellent Linear Design It takes so much effort to manufacture the equipment of super power, and then why have triodes, generally recognized as a “dynamic-limited type”, been used as power tubes? The reason is quite simple: the triode has a better linear performance than an average pentode power tube. If we can not only overcome the instability of triodes that have excellent linear performance, but also achieve precise multiple-tube parallel push-pull (Please note that it must be ‘precise’, or the pushpull will still produce crossover distortion), then isn’t it the most perfect thing in the world? That is exactly the idea of Hulmet Becker. Our technical editor LU Yi-chang, at his first sight of the crazy circuits of Baldur 300, made his first review as follows: “It is definitely a work from the idea of the designer who challenges himself, because to finish this ‘highly difficult’ product the sense of
accomplishment of the designer must be extraordinary. Like other Audio Valve equipments, Baldur 300 also has the extreme cleanness of the circuit board and the first-class handcraft.
Now we have finished the part of review on the accomplishment in design, and it’s time to move next to the sound performance. The pre-amp used is Eklipse produced by the same factory and praised highly of by our magazine, while the speaker is Dynavox 3.1 coming from the same agent, which is an uncommon and excellent speaker of horn design, with extremely high efficiency, and quite a lot of details. Cables used are mostly PAD Cable.
Great Satisfaction in Large Dynamics The first thing I am concerning is whether Baldur 300 is able to give out loud music without distortion but with vivid dynamics? I discover that the performance of Baldur 300 in the dynamic aspect cannot be simply measured by the general triodes, but should be comparable with the high-power valve amplifier of high quality. It can represent the magnificent scene without any fear, and can also reproduce the extremely low and abundant low-frequency section.
Baldur 300’s performance in the extremely low frequency amazes me the most: it’s known the damping factor of valve power amp is not high, which means its control over the speaker is not strong enough, and therefore the low frequency quality of the valve amplifier has never been our emphasis. However, the low frequency performance of Baldur 300 surprises me not only for the quality but also the quantity. For example, the meticulous and steady bass segments of the pipe organ charms the listener with the feeling of limp and numb; not to mention the sound of the double bass which is of clear lines and also excellent bounding texture. As for Baldur 300, I can’t agree more with these opinions.
Undulating Layers and Appealing Delicacy All right, the tests on dynamics and low frequency have been passed. Next it’s the audition process. I just purely enjoy the beautiful sound of Baldur 300. Why Baldur 300 is beautiful? I have to say it makes all my CDs like SACD. The sense of layer and the delicate undulation exceeds my previous experience about CD. The many small and broken sounds of the cymbal among the Jazz drum hear like full of beautiful metallic shine. I can still hear the delicate undulation from the rustling sound, making me moved as if listening to SACD at home. Baldur 300 makes me suddenly realize that CDs actually have so great potential. Just due to the lack of the excellent amplifiers like Baldur 300, we have made a mistake for a long time by saying their acoustic performance is monotonous and lack of details. I have no idea what it would be if using Baldur 300 to listen to LP or SACD.
Why Baldur 300 is beautiful? I have to say its resolution power is amazingly extraordinary, which is not only displayed in the medium and high frequency, but also in the medium and low frequency. The pedal sound of piano performance is very low and deep, so it has always been the segment for me to use when testing the sound effect. However, through Baldur 300, it’s the first time for me to find these pedal sounds are in the first place abundant in various changes, not just the monotonous sound I’ve felt in my previous experience. No matter what kind of software is used, Baldur 300 can all the time surprise me with its superior resolution power. It’s really a breathtaking amplifier.
Why Baldur 300 is beautiful? I have to say its hierarchical undulation is of the highest level. Singing voice even in the weakest segment is also filled with undulation and turn, making people deeply impressed by the solid singing skills and the abundant emotions of the singer.
Natural realness and delicate texture Why Baldur 300 is beautiful? I have to say it is like a stunning beauty who, even without make up, can still “launch a thousand ships” and look pretty in any way. The sound purity of Baldur 300 is very high, enabling people to feel the delicate and pure sound no matter when it produces the sound of the piano or that of the violin, guitar or voice. Many valve amplifiers can reproduce a smooth sound that has no any jangle, but I think the sound, just like a skin covered by a thick layer of make-up powder, gives me no sense of its original texture other than the smoothness. The sound of Baldur 300 feels like a girl’s delicate skin without any make-up powder. She is pure and soft, with fine hair clearly visible to your closer look, making you feel her brimming youthfulness.
Well, if I continue saying like this, the space of the page will become insufficient and I will also lie
under the suspicion of tout for the manufacturer. Baldur 300 has the top rated and most fascinating performance. Certainly, other accompanying equipments absolutely have first-class quality too, so as to bring out the so amazing beauty of Baldur 300. Nevertheless, I have had chances to know more or less about these accompanying equipments on various occasions, but this time it’s my first time to regret not to hear it earlier, which shows how charming Baldur 300 is.
One of the highest contemporary achievements What if you like Baldur 300 but cannot afford it? Baldur 70 of the same series looks like a good alternative. Baldur 70 employs the same design concept of Baldur 300 but its power and price are less than half of the latter, seemingly an excellent option for you. It is worth mentioning that the equipments imported by local agents are Taiwan special edition. In addition to the augmented capacity of capacitors and transformers, the power transformers are also specially tailored to meet the local 110v voltage, rather than the general 100V or 120V transformer, so its performance in Taiwan will definitely not suffer from “land and water incompatibility”.
Baldur 300 is absolutely one of the topmost power amplifiers I have heard in the world. Here, the words “one of” mean that there are some other amplifiers in the world outperforming Baldur 300 in dynamics and control force, so from the point of view of an impartial reviewer, these two words cannot be omitted. However, as far as my preference is concerned, the sound of Baldur 300 makes my heart beat fast and the words “one of” can be safely removed. If you are fortunate to have this amount of budget to purchase an amplifier, since the amplifiers within this price range are in any case not above five, I strongly recommend you to make the decision after listening to Baldur 300.

 

– NEUTRALITY, GENERAL BALANCE

J.H. This first test shows us a real musical treasure, bringing to the voice a superficial sensitivity of the vibratos and placing it at the same time right in the center, in an ambiance of real classical jazz that we like. Very beautiful loosened of the piano, full of poetry and elegance.

R.L. Remarkable. It is put between the speakers with a confusing realism. It is almost a 300B but with – also – a feeling of natural plenitude, of controlled strength, which offer an authentic auditive comfort.

J.H. The Baldur 300 are now showing us this time a sound capture more modern, full of details and micro-information, given to each battery a life, a specific follow-up, without ever going on to the over-detailed conter-musical.

The unusual support of the voice, gives to Mark Curry an unusual presence, without this aggressive beginning often felt. Beautiful guitar.

R.L. We feel like the available strength is unlimited, at least on our voices of a sensitive theater. No signs of pinching on the forte which remain exceptionally loosened.

– RESPONSE IN FREQUENCY

J.H. Applauses like in a concert, spatialized and individualized to perfection. Natural wonderful hit and beats on the small bells test. Impacts virility and sonorous matter of sublime hit skin on the large drum.

R.L. The copied reel is very large without loss in ultimate base. The strength of the impacts and the solemn tension are a pleasure. Even the small bells are very active.

– FUSION OF THE TRANSPARENT RECORDS

J.H. We recognize here the unique qualities of the triodes. Desk of amazing cords, each well differentiated, easy to localize in a room full of people, translated such as, wide, high and deep, without wrong heat.

R.L. The plenitude stays “in the air”. No softness in the desks distribution even on the parts the most strongly modulated.

Lieber HiFi Freund

mit großer Freude können wir nun endlich von der Fertigstellung unseres Projektes BALDUR 200 + berichten. Die Ziele, die wir uns für diese Entwicklung gesteckt hatten, haben wir bei weitem übertroffen, wenngleich sich dadurch einige Verzögerungen im Hiublick auf die für März angekündigten Auslieferungen einstellten. Allein mit einem einzigen Muster auf der High End in Frankfurt konnten wir gleich 3 Interessenten mit Festbestellungen gewinnen. Nicht zu Verschweigen, daß wir auch schon im letzten Winter Sponsoren aus dem Nürnberger Raume hatten, die durch entsprechende Geldmittel halfen, dieses Projekt zu verwicklichen – Ihnen unser besonderer Dank an dieser Stelle.

Es gab einige hinzugekommene Ansprüche aus dem Verkauf der Baldur 100, um deren Realisierung wir uns insbesondere bemühten. So z..B die Erhöhung der Ausgangsleistung, die Erhöhung des Dämpfungsfaktors,die Verringerung des Klirrfaktors etc. und nicht zuletzt eine drastische Erhöhung der Betriebstandfestigkeit über lange Zeit. Sie sehen also, eine Menge von Punkten, die es zu berücksichtigen galt. Es führt an dieser Stelle zu weit, über Detaillösungen der Entwicklung zu sprechen, aber wir wollen uns dennoch die Mühe machen, Ihnen zu Erläutern,wie wir dem einen oder oderen Sachverhalt Rechnung getragen haben.

Zunächst zum Konzept – selbstverständlich sollte es bei einer reinen Triodensendstufe bleiben – die auch bezahlbar bleibt. Viel Endröhren kommen da nicht in Frage, also blieben wir bei unserer 6AS7 Doppeltriode, die zwei Trioden im Glaskern von je 13 Watt verbirgt. Die Röhre stammt aus Netzteilanwendungen, und zeichnet sich durch den Gebrauch auch bei niedrigen Anodensopannungen insbesondere aus. Sie liefert dabei schon enorm hohe Ströme – bei weitem höher als Sie dies von anderen Endröhren kennen – hervorgerufen durch sehr geringe Abstände zwischen den Elektroden der Röhre – sodaß die Anpassung an den Lautsprecher mit sehr geringem Übersetzungsverhältnis ausfällt. Der Innenwiderstand ist dabei traumhaft gering – in der Größenordnung von ca. 100 Ohm pro System. Nun schalten Sie mal alle Systeme zusammen, da kommen Sie fast in die Gegend der Lautsprecherimpedanz – besser geht`s nicht.

 

Allerdings haben wir einen kleinen Wermutstropfen zu beklagen, nämlich die Tatsache, daß diese Röhre keine Verstärkung im herkömmlichen Sinnen liefert, nicht nur das, man muß die Steuerspannungen für diese Röhre beträchtlich höher wählen, um zu brauchbaren Nutzsignalen zu gelangen. Wir entschieden uns hier zur Verwendung einer Treibervorstufe mit Treibertrafo. Sehr ungewöhnlich für die Branche, aber geradezu prädestiniert für unsere Endröhren. Die Baugruppe die als Treiber Verwendung findet, trägt den Namem ASSISTENT und stellt für sich allein gesehen bereits eine komplette Stereoentstufe mit zwei mal 20 Watt dar. Auf der ganzen Welt hat sich das besondere Klangbild dieser kleinen Endstufe ethabliert und dies haben wir und zunutzte gemacht und in genialer Weise mit der Triodenendstufe in einem großartigen Monoblock realisiert. Der Treibertrafo liefert nun die für die Endröhren erforderliche hohe Siganlspannung – und realisiert auch Gitterstrom in den Endröhren, wo Sie weitere Reserven der Endröhre, die dort schlummern, nutzen können. Dazu bedarf es allerdings Leistung – und deshalb hat allein die Treiberstufe in BALDUR 200+, satte 20 Watt. Sie ist im übrigen mit einer Triple-Triode des Types 6EZ8 und  2 * QQE 04/12 bestückt  (Doppel-Sende-Tetrode).

 

Wie schon früher, arbeitet auch diese Endstufe in PPP Technik – d.h. zwei gleiche Leistungseinheiten liegen incl. ihrer Netzteile antiparallel über dem Übertrager. Das Übersetzungverhältnis reduziert sich auf lediglich Ü=3. Ausserdem sind alle Endröhren als Kathodenfolger geschaltet, womit die galvanische Trennung entfällt und ein Spartrafo mit all seinen Vorzügen zum Einsatz kommt.. Sie sehen also – eine Summe von Eigenschaften, die im Resutat zwangsläufig zu einem aussergewöhnlichen Produkt führen müssen. Aber nicht genug damit – abschließend möchten wir Sie noch auf die besonderen Möglichkeiten der autom. Biaseinstellungen an allen Triodensystemen ansprechen, damit Sie auch hier erkennen – einfach genial. Zunächst das Problem . Es kann doch nicht im Sinne des Kunden sein, für solch ein Produkt teure – evtl. auch noch selektierte Endröhren zu verwenden – allein schon wegen der Kosten und der Beschaffung. Mit Standartröhren zu leben tut sich insofern schwer, als die Arbeitspunkte der Röhren untereinander abweichen – was denn übriges bei selektierten auch nach kurzer Zeit der Fall ist – und deswegen verlangt die heutige Zeit Konstruktionen, die in der Lage sind, den Ruhestrom einer Röhre zu ermitteln, und falls erforderlich über eine großen Bereich nachzustellen. BALDUR 200+ hat eben diese Elektronic, die Ihnen die max. Qualitäten Ihrer Röhren entzieht, solang diese es erlauben, und das in Class A Technik.

Im Kurzschlußfall einer Röhre spricht max. eine an jeder Röhre befindliche Sicherung an, die Sie dann selbst wechseln können, ohne daß das Gerät irgendeinen Schaden nimmt. Rote LEDs signalisieren Ihnen die Zustände der ständigen Regeltätigkeit der Biasregulatioren. Sollte so z.B. mal eine Led bei rotlich verharren in Ruhe, ist es an der Zeit die Röhre zu tauschen oder aber led. die Sicherung zu wechseln – Sie benötigen keinesfalls techn. Beistand. Betrachten Sie mal kritisch die am Markt befindlichen übrigen Geräte und fragen Sie mal nach all den Vorkehrungen, die ein gutes Produkt auszeichnen, viele werden Sie nicht finden – wenn überhaupt eines. Soweit zu den wichtigsten Kriterien des Konzeptes.

    First of all, many thanks for providing the two output stages Baldur 300.
    Of course, it is very helpful to experience devices of this quality at home in your own test
    (I have at home with a very high end high end necklace that has grown over half a lifetime).

    Honestly it is not possible, what makes the question, where do I start?

    The first audition was with my wife, who has a great understanding of good music and good sound. The first sentence was: “What are these boxes? After the second LP, the second movement was: “Oh God, the sound is beautiful ……”. So the evening ended with a lot of music and a good mood!
    The second day with good friends.
    The boys, both from home with good high end equipment,
    brought a lot of records, a lot of curiosity and a question mark.
    The two power amplifiers were inspected, photographed and illuminated from all sides.
    So far so good, after the first notes … silence, which gave way to an open mouth and then turned into a broad grin!
    We played a variety of styles and styles.
    Rock, pop, jazz, film music and what else was there from 1950 to the present day.
    And always the result was the same, just good, without overdoing it.
    When power was needed, it was there, at gentle tones they were flattering and there,
    in other words “supple”, “honest” and with a pinch of “fine spirit”.
    We in our group were not as emotionally affected by the music as last weekend.
    The amplifiers are not overly warm, hum-free and what is also noticeable (I have not experienced so synonymous with tubes) are ready after 10 minutes and fully there!
    Sound description: Analytical with the heat of a tube, but not “soft-rinsed”, or what is called a typical tube sound, as I know it from my own.
    And the question mark I mentioned at the beginning is the hair in the soup we were looking for?
    There is no one, as much as we searched ………
    The display in the game mode would fit in a beautiful red even more harmonious to the power amplifiers ….
    I am not a magazine editor and I have deliberately not read a test to avoid any influence. That’s why this is just honest and the guys and me
    say: “WOW …… ..”

    Nach vielen Stationen ( ML-PASS-GRUENSCH-VALVET- STRADA MONOS –PATHOS- BALDUR 70) scheinen die 300 Baldur meine Erfüllung zu sein.
    In der Konfiguration : Horns Mummy-Wadia 381i-Cardas Reference LS-NF-Stein Music Stromvesorgung-Baldur 300 begeistern sie mich und andere Zuhörer immer wieder.

    Wir haben Ihre Balduren 300 ausgiebig an unserer Triangle Grand Concert mit einem Ayon CD3s (mit eingebauter Vorstufe) getestet und mit unseren bestehenden Cayin 9088 (2×845/Block) sowie den NAT Transmittern verglichen.

    Hier die tabellarische, subjektive Zusammenfassung:
    + optisch sehr schönes Gerät (lediglich die blauen LED-Plexiglasscheiben fanden wir nicht ganz so schön, da dieses grelle Blau nicht zum warmen Klang passt)
    + relativ leicht (38kg; 55kg lt. Spezifikation im Manual)
    + passt elektrisch perfekt zu unserer sehr schwierigen Grand Concert (Impedanzminimum von 1.8Ohm)
    + breite Bühne
    + enorme Kraft
    + keine Hochtonschärfe
    + sehr kontrollierter und kräftiger Bass
    + sehr dynamisch

    Mittlerweile testeten wir die Baldur 300 Monos am 8 Ohm Anschluss – anstelle der 4 Ohm – mit der Triangle Grand Concert und sind hellauf begeistert, jetzt ist der Klang viel präziser und alles war wie gewünscht und wie unten bereits positiv beschrieben. Die Balduren sind also elektrisch der beste Antrieb, den wir bisher an dem LS gehört haben und das waren ca. 10 Endstufen.
    Meine Frau, die ja analytischer hört als ich, lässt Sie schön grüssen, und meinte dass Sie die beinahe eierlegende Wollmilchsau eines Verstärkers gebaut hätten und Sie ist von Ihrem Können schwer beeindruckt.
